Actor Michael Fassbender admits he botched his opportunity to play James Bond, suggesting Daniel Craig instead.
Michael Fassbender infamously forfeited the chance of donning the iconic tuxedo when he, inexplicably, endorsed another actor for the coveted 007 role – none other than Daniel Craig.
During a candid conversation on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, the lively Irish thespian reminisced about his meeting with James Bond's very own producer, Barbara Broccoli, and attempting to land the legendary role. Somehow, Fassbender found himself chanting Craig's name during their encounter.
Laughing it off, he quipped, “Why in the world was I marketing him? I should have been boosting myself.” Yet, he also confessed that he never truly considered himself a contender for the role.
Craig, who launched his run as Bond in the gripping "Casino Royale" back in 2006, eventually set the franchise ablaze with his performance. "Daniel undeniably delivered a remarkable performance," admitted Fassbender, "and I believe he became the most successful 007 of all time."
A self-proclaimed struggling auditioner, Fassbender confessed to his stumbles in the 007 selection process. "I was appalling at auditions," he revealed, stretching back to his Bond experience.
Capering the memory lane, Fassbender shared another cringeworthy audition snafu for "Mad Max: Fury Road." Mistaking the location, he arrived late, uneasy, and faced an excruciatingly awkward audition. Despite being two years senior to Fassbender in drama school, the leading role ultimately landed in Tom Hardy's hands.
Given his dreams of shaking, not stirring, seem to have evaporated, Fassbender was dispassionate about reprising the iconic role. "I think it's time to call it a day," he said.
Yet, he didn't falter in proposing a new potential actor for the driver's seat of the famous Aston Martin – his "Black Bag" co-star and "Bridgerton" heartthrob, Regé-Jean Page. "He could very well become a frontrunner," Fassbender mused.
Though his chances of taking on the secret service slyly slid away, Fassbender still gets to embody an undercover operative, sharing screen time with Page and Cate Blanchett in "Black Bag."
Michael Fassbender, in a candid conversation, revealed his unsuccessful audition for the 007 role, admitting that he found himself advocating for Daniel Craig during their encounter with Barbara Broccoli. Despite his shortcomings in auditioning, Fassbender suggested Rege-Jean Page as a potential contender for the next James Bond, hoping he could become a frontrunner for the role.
