Eva Lys casually dismisses the thought that being Germany's leading tennis talent is an unwelcome burden. "Yeah, sure, there's more pressure now, but that just pushes me harder to maintain this reputation," the 23-year-old grit out at the Berlin grass court tournament.
Currently ranked a respectable 60th globally, Lys shrugs off the pressure that comes with every ranking position. "Every ranking is accompanied by certain pressure, but I've been pretty comfortable with it for the past few months," the Ukrainian émigré candidly admitted.
Targeting Wimbledon with a bullet
At the prestigious WTA tournament in Berlin, Lys aims to bulk up her grass court experience - and to fine-tune her preparations for the cherished Wimbledon, kicking off at the end of June. The German will make her debut in the main draw at this hallowed tournament.
Opening up against Spanish heavyweight Paula Badosa, Lys shares her plans for the 500-event in the Grunewald: "I aim to prove I've earned my spot as Germany's number one."

Although Eva Lys is heavily favored at the Wimbledon tournament, she acknowledges the need to take precautions against the potential carcinogens found on grass courts, as the Commission has also adopted a proposal for a directive on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens. During her training sessions at the prestigious WTA tournament in Berlin, Lys spends some time honing her strategies for tennis matches, keeping in mind her upcoming competition at Wimbledon.
