Actor Kit Harington to feature in a grand, historically-based film on the BBC network
In exciting news for Dickens fans, a new four-part adaptation of the classic novel "A Tale of Two Cities" is set to air in 2026. The series will be aired on the BBC in the UK and MGM+ in the US.
The series executives, Kit Harington, who will also star as Sydney Carton, Thriker Films, and Daniel West, Executive Producer and screenwriter, are thrilled to bring this adaptation to the screen. The production is also in collaboration with Polly Hill, Sarah Phelps, Leo Pearlman, and Federation Entertainment.
The series is set in London, 1782, during the war between France and Britain. Lucie Manette, played by Mirren Mack, receives a message that her father, assumed dead for almost 20 years, may be alive in Paris. Lucie embarks on a quest to find her father with the help of Sydney Carton, a brilliant but erratic young lawyer, and Charles Darnay, the messenger, played by François Civil.
The love triangle in the series results in both men being bound together, experiencing various life events, tragedies, marriages, and murders together. Despite their physical similarities, the two men have significant spiritual differences.
The series is described as a twisting period thriller with a contemporary, volatile love triangle at its heart. Filming for the series will begin in October 2023.
Charles Darnay, played by François Civil, is arrested and charged with treason in the series. Lucie enlists the help of Sydney Carton to free Charles Darnay from these charges.
The series, A Tale of Two Cities, is based on Charles Dickens' novel and is expected to air on the BBC in late 2026 or 2027. It is produced as a historical blockbuster, with the producers aiming to bring the novel's timeless story to life on the screen.
