Actor Jesse Plemons Signs on for The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping
Jesse Plemons, notably recognized for his roles in "Civil War" and "Black Mirror," has been announced as the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming prequel to "The Hunger Games," titled "Sunrise on the Reaping."
According to Deadline, Plemons will portray the character Plutarch Heavensbee, a role previously played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in the original film series. In the original films, Heavensbee was a Gamemaker for the Capital, eventually revealing himself as a key leader in the rebellion against them.
Contrary to prior films, "Sunrise" presents Plutarch as a young District 12 resident who served as a cameraman, occasionally encouraging Haymitch Abernathy to survive the blood sport. Joseph Zada has been confirmed as the young Haymitch, Whitney Peak as his love Lenore Baird, and McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner.
Lionsgate announced the movie alongside the book of the same name by Suzanne Collins. Following the success of "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes," which focused on President Snow and was released as a book in 2020 and a movie in 2023, the series returns to the prequel theme to depict how Haymitch won the Games of his youth and the intersection of his life with the parents of future protagonists Katniss and Peeta.
"Sunrise on the Reaping," directed by returning "Hunger Games" director Francis Lawrence, is scheduled for theaters on November 20, 2026.
