Actor Jeffrey Wright, who features in The Batman 2, hasn't delved into the script yet, but he's positive about the rumblings he's encountering regarding the DC movie's sequel.
The Batman 2: A Darker Gotham Returns in 2027
Prepare for the return of the Dark Knight as The Batman 2, directed by Matt Reeves and co-written with Mattson Tomlin, is set to hit theatres on October 2027. The sequel to the 2017 film will see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside returning cast members Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and potentially Barry Keoghan as Joker.
Filming for The Batman 2 is set to begin in spring 2026, with principal photography starting on January 1, 2026, at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London. The script, which is tightly guarded, is rumoured to tie directly into the Penguin spin-off series.
Rumours abound about the villains we can expect in the sequel, with Hush, the Court of Owls, and Mr. Freeze with a “Heart of Ice” storyline all mentioned. The inclusion of Robin, possibly Jason Todd, is also strongly hinted at, promising a darker and bolder story than the first film.
However, Zoë Kravitz, who portrayed Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the first film, is rumoured not to return for the sequel. Her publicists have advised media not to ask about The Batman 2, suggesting her character may be absent or replaced.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has debunked the rumour about Robin being in The Batman 2. Despite not having read the script yet, actor Jeffrey Wright, who plays Jim Gordon, has teased that he's a fan of the sequel so far.
The release of The Batman 2 will mark five years since the first film was released. Other upcoming DC movies and shows include Peacemaker season 2, scheduled for August 21, and Supergirl, set to hit theatres next year. With a teaser or trailer expected to appear in late 2026 or early 2027, fans of the Dark Knight can look forward to a thrilling Halloween 2027 release as the Gotham universe continues to expand.
