In an unfortunate turn of events, the renowned German actor, Rolf Schimpf, breathed his last at the ripe age of 100. According to BR, he peacefully passed away in his sleep at a care home in Munich early this Saturday morning.

A Career Centered Around Criminal Investigations

Schimpf, best recognized for his role as Kriminalhauptkommissar Leo Kress in the ZDF crime series "Der Alte" from 1986 to 2007, graced our screens in an impressive 222 episodes. Following his retirement, he made a special guest appearance on the show. Besides his iconic role in "Der Alte", Schimpf also graced the police stations of "Derrick", "SOKO Munich", and various "Tatort" films.

Born in Berlin in 1924, Schimpf initially followed a commercial career path before diving into the acting world. His corpus of theater engagements kicked off after he completed his acting studies and included performances at various venues across Germany and Switzerland. It was a six-part ZDF series, "Mensch Bachmann", where Schimpf took the lead role in 1984, thanks to producer Helmut Ringelmann (1926-2011), that eventually led to his transformative role in "Der Alte".

According to BR, from 2010, Schimpf lived with his wife Ilse in a senior residence in Munich. Following her unfortunate demise in 2015, he was compelled to switch to a senior home a year before turning 100.
