Actor Harvey Guillén, known for his role in 'What We Do in the Shadows', will be honored with the Icon Award at the Raizado Festival, as confirmed in an exclusive reveal.
The Raizado Festival is set to return to Aspen, Colo. on Aug. 23, marking its second year. Founded by Monica Ramirez, the festival aims to recognise and celebrate Latine achievements in literature, cuisine, music, TV and film, storytelling, and social impact.
This year's theme is legacy, and Monica Ramirez emphasises the importance of honoring visionaries who are symbols of strength and power in the Latine community. Past honorees of the festival include Wilmer Valderrama, Sandra Cisneros, Maria Elena Salinas, Sylvia Mendez, Lydia Cacho, and Luis Miranda Jr.
The four-day event will feature a variety of activities, including master classes, fireside chats, panels, screenings of official film selections, and performances leading up to the awards ceremony. The festival will be hosted by Judy Reyes and Chrissie Fit, with Justina Machado hosting the after-party following the event.
The Raizado Festival will also offer a culinary experience curated by Grace Ramirez and Melissa Tung, featuring Claudette Zepeda and Lynnette Marrero. Nella is set to perform at the festival, adding to the exciting lineup of events.
In addition to the Culture Icon Award, which will be presented to Isabel Allende, the festival will also bestow the Changemaker Award upon Lisa Vidal and Diana Maria Riva, the Power Icon Award upon Carmen Perez, and the Truth Icon Award upon Harvey Guillén. Blanca Uzeta O'Leary will receive the Colorado Icon Award.
Monica Ramirez stated that the Icon Awards are more than a celebration, they are a call to remember where they come from, who they fight for, and what they are leaving behind for future generations. The Raizado Festival will be livestreamed on YouTube starting at 7:30 p.m. MT on Aug. 23, allowing a wider audience to join in the celebration of Latine achievements and legacy.
