Actor Gina Carano, known for her role in 'The Mandalorian,' reaches a settlement with Disney over the claim of unjust dismissal.

Actress Gina Carano, known for her role in the hit series "The Mandalorian" on Disney+, has reached a settlement with The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, ending a lawsuit that was filed over her termination from the show.

The lawsuit, which was filed more than a year ago, alleged wrongful termination and discrimination due to Carano's conservative political beliefs expressed on social media. Elon Musk, owner of social media platform X, funded Carano's legal action as part of an initiative to support individuals who felt wronged for their views.

In her lawsuit, Carano asserted that she was "targeted, harassed, publicly humiliated, [and] defamed" for making political statements that did not align with what Disney and Lucasfilm believed was an acceptable viewpoint. The settlement occurred by early August 2025, with no detailed terms disclosed.

Carano confirmed the settlement on Thursday, calling it the "best outcome for all parties involved." In a post on her social media, she expressed hope for healing and excitement for the next chapter, and thanked Elon Musk for funding her lawsuit.

Disney's spokesperson stated that Carano was always respected by her colleagues on "The Mandalorian." Lucasfilm spokesperson also stated they look forward to working with Carano in the near future. However, the conditions of the settlement were not disclosed by Lucasfilm.

Carano's controversial social media posts, including one that compared being conservative to being Jewish during the Holocaust, were a significant point of contention in the lawsuit. Critics also objected to her posts about voter fraud, pandemic-era mask mandates, and making fun of stating people's pronouns, which ignited a firestorm of controversy.

Despite the settlement, Disney's decision to terminate Carano and the ensuing lawsuit is not considered an indictment of 'cancel culture' or corporate capitulation. The company maintains its right to distance itself from individuals whose views are not in line with its own.

Carano had claimed she had been promised a role in the now-shelved "Star Wars" spinoff "Rangers of the New Republic." In 2021, a Lucasfilm representative stated that Carano was not currently employed by the "Star Wars" production company and had no plans to be in the future, calling her posts "abhorrent and unacceptable."

This settlement marks the end of a high-profile legal battle between Carano and Disney, and leaves open the possibility for future collaboration between the actress and the company.

  1. California-based entertainment company Lucasfilm, along with Disney, reached a settlement with actress Gina Carano, concluding a lawsuit initiated over her termination from "The Mandalorian" due to her controversial expressed political beliefs on social media.
  2. Elon Musk, founder of social media platform X, supported Carano financially as part of his initiative to aid individuals who felt they had been treated unjustly due to their views.
  3. In the settlement, Carano received promises of potential future collaborations, following her criticism that the company had targeted, harassed, and defamed her for expressing political views not in line with Disney's and Lucasfilm's beliefs.
  4. The controversy surrounding Carano's social media posts, which included content perceived as offensive towards various groups and political issues, initially led to her termination from The Mandalorian and remained a contentious point in the legal battle.
