You ever hear somethin' so sad it feels surreal, like a punch to the gut? That's what the sudden passing of Michelle Trachtenberg ('85-'25) did to us, man. Known for her roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and Georgina Sparks in "Gossip Girl," she was only a sprightly 39 when she left us. Now, Leighton Meester (39), who played Blair Waldorf alongside the late actress in the hit series, has finally broken her silence about the tragic loss.

Leighton Meester: "It's a Sucker Punch"

In an exciting interview with "Flaunt" magazine, the talented American actress couldn't hold back the tears when talkin' about Trachtenberg. "It's a sucker punch," Meester admitted. "She was a fucking gem, a super-talented person, and everyone adored her. It's beyond sad for anyone who knew her."

Trachtenberg and Meester's shared age at the time of her death was especially hard for the former co-star to stomach. The dynamic duo worked together on "Gossip Girl" for six long seasons from '07 to '12.

The Silent Killer: Diabetes

Trachtenberg was found lifeless in her New York apartment on 26th February 2024. According to the New York City Medical Examiner's Office, as reported by the folks at "People" in April, the cause of death was complications related to diabetes mellitus. The manner of death was officially ruled as natural.

Grief in the Gossip Girl Family

Meester isn't the only one from the "Gossip Girl" family to mourn Trachtenberg's loss. Stars like Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, Ed Westwick, and Chace Crawford have all expressed their grief.

Badgley, who played Dan Humphrey, shared his feelings with "E! News." "When I heard the news, it was like I got a swift kick to the guts," he confessed. "She was insanely quick to crack a smile, and she was nothing short of incredibly joyful. I ain't seen her in over a decade, but those memories still linger deep, man."

In her interview, Meester also reflected on the lasting impact of "Gossip Girl" and how its influence has grown stronger with time. "Now I can see plain as day that the impact of the show lives on," she admitted. "I didn't realize it back then, but it seems like its legacy is stronger than ever, which is damn near mind-boggling."
