Actor from Spiderman movie praises incredible action by Jayden Daniels and predicts quarterback's efforts will revive Washington's former success.
Washington Commanders Gear Up for 2025 Season with Optimism
Jon Bernthal, a 48-year-old actor known for his role in Marvel's The Punisher, has expressed his excitement about the Washington Commanders, comparing their recent success to the team's glory days in the 1980s. Bernthal, a lifelong fan of the Commanders and a native of Montgomery County, Maryland, attended Monday's training camp practice.
Last season, the Commanders shocked the league by finishing with a 12-5 record, their best outing since 1991 when they won the Super Bowl. This turnaround came after drafting Jayden Daniels, the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, with the second overall pick in the 2024 Draft.
Daniels led the Commanders to the NFC Championship game, where they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. Bernthal praised the sophomore quarterback for his stellar rookie campaign and for his toughness, playing with broken ribs last season. A memorable moment for Bernthal was witnessing a 56-yard Hail Mary pass while filming abroad.
Bernthal sees Daniels as the key to the Commanders’ emerging offense and a central figure in their potential playoff push in 2025. He also commended the quality of men on the Commanders and their role models for kids.
Another offensive weapon, Deebo Samuel, was acquired by the Commanders this offseason. However, Terry McLaurin, the Commanders' No. 1 wide receiver, has requested a trade away from the organization due to a contract stalemate. McLaurin ended a four-day hold out to join up with the team at training camp, still frustrated by Washington's lack of urgency to get a new deal over the line.
Despite these challenges, Bernthal remains loyal to the franchise and sees the current season as "payback time" for the team. He praises the Commanders as a group of "go-getters" under Coach Quinn, expressing confidence in their success and a positive culture on and off the field.
