Actor Giovanni Arvaneh, Famous for "Marienhof," Passes Away at 61
Actor from Marienhof series succumbs to kidney cancer
German thespian, Johnny Arvaneh, best recognized for his portrayal of Sülo Özgür in the ARD series "Marienhof," has bid adieu at the age of 61. His Instagram account shared the heartbreaking news on May 14, accompanied by a monochromic snapshot. The caption read, "He dished out love like others offered applause — with open arms, from a whole heart."
Arvaneh's acting career flourished in 1994 when he joined the "Marienhof" cast. He continued in this role, with breaks, up until 2010, while also appearing on shows like "Unser Charly," "SOKO 5113," and "St. Angela." In February 2021, he publicly declared his sexuality as part of the "actout" initiative. Over the summer of 2023, he went public about his health battle with cancer.
His Instagram post last April read, "I've received countless heartwarming messages for my birthday last Easter, wishing to respond. However, I often or mostly can't due to lack of concentration. But all the beautiful words have resonated deep within my heart."
Reminiscence from "Marienhof" Costar
Nicole Belstler-Boettcher, Arvaneh's "Marienhof" colleague, who played Sandra Behrens, honored their bond with a moving comment following the announcement of his passing. "My dear Johnny, this morning, as Carsten shared the sad news, I was filled with mixed emotions. Relief that you're finally free of the pain that had been suffocating you, and yet, despite it all, you kept spreading joy. You've made your peace, and you were ready to move on. The last few months were a struggle. You've given us all so much, left such an indelible mark. I don't know anyone who continuously strived for self-improvement, harbored such a massive heart, and yearned to help. The last year has been surreal."
She continued, "The void you leave behind is unfathomable, dear Johnny. May you find solace and happiness in the afterlife. I love you."
