Passing of Iconic German Actor Giovanni Arvaneh: A Salute to the Talented Star
Actor from "Marienhof" passes away due to complications from kidney cancer
Giovanni Arvaneh, renowned for his gripping portrayal of Sülo Özgürlük in ARD's hit series "Marienhof," has left this world at the tender age of 61. His demise, due to a prolonged battle with cancer, was announced on his Instagram account, accompanied by a poignant black-and-white photo.
Arvaneh graced our screens from 1994, impeccably embodying the character of Sülo Özgürlük for a staggering 16 years in "Marienhof." This Munich-born talent also brought his unique charm to series like "Our Charly," "SOKO 5113," and "St. Angela." In February 2021, he courageously stepped forward as a member of the "actout" initiative, openly embracing his identity as a gay man. Later, in the summer of 2023, he bravely shared his cancer diagnosis.
Arvaneh's Instagram post from April read, "I have received so many beautiful messages for my birthday at Easter and I would love to respond. Unfortunately, I often or mostly lack the concentration. But all the many beautiful words have reached deep into my heart." He expressed his feelings through hashtags like #lettinggo.
A Heartfelt Tribute from "Marienhof" Co-star
Upon learning the tragic news, Nicole Belstler-Boettcher, Arvaneh's "Marienhof" co-star who played Sandra Behrens, paid an emotional tribute. In the comments section of the Instagram post, she wrote: "My dear Giovanni, when Carsten informed me the news this morning, I was torn - relief that you are now free from the pain that barely let you breathe during the last days, and yet, sadness that such an extraordinarily special person has left us. You have touched so many hearts with your performances and your kindness. The last year was overwhelmingly difficult for you, dear Giovanni. You leave an immense void behind, but they can rejoice up there."
She continued, "You were a person who had given us all so much, who had left so many beautiful moments. I don't know anyone who has worked on themselves as intensively as you, who had such a big heart and always wanted to help. The last year was incredibly heart-wrenching. You leave an incredibly big void, dear Giovanni. RIP."
