Actor from 'General Hospital' bids farewell to LA following 35-year residence, relocating across the country
Rena Sofer, the beloved star of General Hospital who plays Lois Cerullo, has made a significant personal change but remains committed to her role on the hit soap opera. After nearly 35 years in Los Angeles, Sofer is moving to New York City, but she's not leaving General Hospital behind.
Sofer has shifted her status to a recurring cast member, meaning she will continue to appear in significant family-related storylines. To accommodate this move, she plans to commute from New York to Los Angeles to film her scenes. She has already scheduled return dates to set, with filming set to begin in August 2025.
The move to New York reflects a personal relocation for Sofer, but professionally, she continues to participate in the show’s filming via cross-country commuting. This transition comes after Sofer returned to General Hospital as Lois Cerullo in 1993 and stayed until 1997.
In an emotional Instagram video, Sofer bid farewell to her former home in Los Angeles, singing Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind." She expressed gratitude for her success, friends, and experiences in Los Angeles, and announced that she is moving with her five dogs and her husband, Sanford Bookstaver, who was her ex-husband from 2003 to 2017 but later rekindled their romance and remarried in 2024.
Sofer also mentioned her close friends Arin Cabral and David Sofer in the video. The loyal General Hospital fanbase, as described by actor Maurice Benard, will undoubtedly continue to support Sofer in her new chapter.
Sofer's daughter, Rosabel Rosalind Kurth, is from a previous relationship with ex-husband Wallace Kurth. The family is leaving Los Angeles in a Rivian vehicle, marking a new beginning for them in the New York State of Mind.
