Actor Ernie Hudson Lands Role in Toy Story 5, Reprising Previous Character
In a Spin for Toy Story's Fifth Adventure!
The highly anticipated Toy Story 5 has snagged veteran actor Ernie Hudson to join its star-studded voice cast. Hudson is known for his legendary role as Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters, and will be taking over the mic from the late Carl Weathers as Combat Carl.
According to Deadline, Hudson will breathe life into Combat Carl, a G.I. Joe-esque action figure who made his debut in the 2013 Halloween special Toy Story of Terror! and reappeared in Toy Story 4. Fan-favorites Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are set to reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear respectively, with Anna Faris recently cast in an undisclosed role in January.
Previously, Hudson has lent his voice acting prowess to various projects, including Batman: Bad Blood, Infinity Train, Transformers Prime, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
As for the plot of Toy Story 5, details have been scarce. Disney has yet to release any official teasers. However, we do know that the toys will face an army of Buzz Lightyears at some point in the film, and the overall theme will focus on technology replacing toys' relevance to children. Recently, Allen hinted at a major comeback for cowgirl Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack), and suggested that Buzz and Woody will "realign" after Woody went off with Bo Peep to help lost toys find new homes.
Toy Story 5 is slated for a June 19, 2026 release.
Stay tuned for the latest on Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek releases, the future of the DC Universe on film and TV, and everything you need to know about the next chapter in Doctor Who.
