Ed Gale, the renowned puppeteer and actor who brought the menacing doll Chucky to life in the Child's Play franchise, passed away at the age of 61. His family announced the sad news on Facebook.

Gale was hospitalized a few days before his death, experiencing difficulty breathing, according to his representative Cindy Osbrink, who spoke to NBC News. He passed away in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, surrounded by loved ones, including a close friend who had travelled from the East Coast to see him one last time.

Born in Plainwell, Michigan, in 1963, Gale moved to California at the age of 20 with only $41 and a dream, as his niece recounted in a Facebook post.

Gale made his acting debut as one of multiple actors to physically play Howard T. Duck in the 1986 sci-fi comedy "Howard the Duck." He also appeared in Mel Brooks' 1987 comedy film, "Spaceballs." Although specific roles in other films like the Bill & Ted series weren't detailed, Gale's versatile career spanned over 130 films, television shows, and commercials.

In 1988, Gale first physically portrayed Chuck in "Child's Play," then took the stunt role again for the 1990 sequel, "Child's Play 2." He reprised the role in the 1998 film "Bride of Chucky." Actor Brad Dourif has voiced the character since its debut.

In addition to his work on the Chucky franchise, Gale's career highlights include "Chopper Chicks in Zombietown" (1989), "The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle" (2000), and most recently, "Pandemonic" in 2020. His wide-ranging body of work left a lasting legacy, filled with intriguing cinematography and memorable one-liners.
