Actor Dean Cain, previously known for his role as Superman on television, is set to take an oath as an honorary Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer.

In a move that has sparked both praise and criticism, actor Dean Cain, known for his role as Superman in the 1990s television series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," has expressed his intent to join the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. The Department of Homeland Security's spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, announced that Cain will be sworn in as an "honorary ICE Officer" in the coming month.

Cain's role is largely symbolic and inspirational, aimed at supporting ICE morale and recruitment efforts. However, the specific duties of this honorary title have not been clearly defined by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Cain, who is already a sworn deputy sheriff and reserve police officer, aims to support ICE agents publicly by encouraging recruitment and standing up for their work, which involves enforcing immigration laws and deporting those in the country illegally.

DHS officials, including McLaughlin, have embraced Cain's involvement, positioning him as a "real-life superhero" encouraging Americans to engage in public service. This honorary role is part of broader efforts to bolster ICE's image and recruitment, with the agency aiming to expand hiring after a massive infusion of cash from Congress. The DHS is also removing age limits for new hires at the agency responsible for immigration enforcement, targeting new demographics such as Gen Z, veterans, and law professionals to fill over 14,000 enforcement roles.

Cain's stance aligns closely with conservative viewpoints and support for the Trump administration's immigration policies, with Cain endorsing Trump in multiple elections and endorsing the agency's efforts on social media. However, public reactions appear to be mixed, as the topic of ICE enforcement is politically contentious.

Meanwhile, in Seattle, a different kind of superhero is making headlines. Lady Gaga is reigning in Seattle with her summer arena tour, while the city's audio drama and fiction podcast scene is booming. A local photo exhibit honours a father, and "Atmosphere" is the top local fiction bestseller.

In other news, a new "Superman" film, starring David Corenswet, has made over $550 million, but has become a hot-button topic due to its political associations. Right-wing commentators have criticized the film after director James Gunn referred to the character as being like an "immigrant." Warner Bros. did not respond to a request for comment regarding Dean Cain's interest in joining ICE.
