Actor Dave Bautista shares reasons for not feeling anger towards not portraying Peacemaker as intended by James Gunn, despite experiencing a touch of jealousy.
In the world of DC Universe (DCU), the role of Bane has eluded Dave Bautista, but the wrestler-turned-actor has shown no signs of slowing down. After a clash of schedules and a more lucrative offer from a different project, Bautista had to pass on the role of Peacemaker, which was originally written for him by James Gunn.
James Gunn penned Peacemaker with Bautista in mind for The Suicide Squad. However, Bautista's commitment to Army of the Dead, coupled with a better financial package, led him to decline the role. John Cena stepped in to play Peacemaker, and new episodes of the series are released weekly on Thursdays.
Bautista has a mature perspective on not landing the role of Peacemaker, acknowledging that someone else was 'more right' for the role. He joked that the clock may be working against him in regards to the role of Bane. Despite this, Bautista remains open to joining the DCU if a suitable role arises.
Since his post-Drax era, Bautista has been stretching his acting career with diverse roles. He can be seen in films like Blade Runner 2049, Dune, and Knock at the Cabin. His career continues to thrive, with high standards and interesting parts.
Paramount Pictures has acquired The Romantic, but does not yet have an official release date. This romantic comedy marks another opportunity for Bautista to stretch his acting range. Bautista expressed some envy towards Cena's performance as Peacemaker, but still couldn't see a world where he could do a better job. He recently talked about his new project with ComicBook.com and gave Cena his flowers for his performance as Peacemaker.
If schedules and money had lined up, Bautista might have worn the chrome helmet through two seasons of Peacemaker, Superman, and even Man of Tomorrow. However, it seems that Bautista's dream role as the villain Bane has not materialized, influencing his decision about continuing in the DC projects.
The second season of Peacemaker premiered on August 21, 2025. John Cena is currently starring in the series, which can be streamed with an HBO Max subscription. As for Bautista, his career continues to expand with promising projects on the horizon.
