Harry Potter alum, and resident Malfoy, Tom Felton, leapt into the unforgettable churning waters of public discourse recently. Appearing at the 2025 Tony Awards red carpet, Felton made headlines when he expressed ambivalence towards JK Rowling's transphobic rhetoric. And now, like the proverbial phoenix, another former Potter actor has arisen to join him in the crucible.

The words of Tom Felton have flown far and wide since the announcement of his return to the stage in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. With the show set to officially begin on November 11th at the Lyric Theatre in New York City, the eyes of Muggles everywhere are upon Felton.

Here's the dazzling announcement video!

As a striking red carpet interview with Variety would later reveal, when asked about his stance on the contentious topic, Felton remarked: "I can't say it impacts me, I'm not really that attuned to it. I have not seen anything bring the world together more than [Harry] Potter. [JK Rowling]'s responsible for that, so, I'm incredibly grateful."

Understandably, the internet was not shy about voicing its opinions on Felton's nonchalant response. Many online were put off by his casual dismissal of Rowling's actions and public statements.

Comparisons have been drawn between Felton's stance and the positions of his former co-stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. All three have openly distanced themselves from Rowling and have openly supported the trans community in public.

Yet, it isn't merely Felton's words that have caused a stir. Some see his very words as a dog whistle to the anti-trans movement. Portraying a character notorious for his bullying behavior means that any careless comment or dismissive tone could be interpreted as endorsement.

However, one man stands a step ahead, and his name is Jason Isaacs. Once the fatherly figure of the Malfoy family in the Potterverse, Isaacs has thrown his considerable weight behind Felton. Commenting on a clip posted by the gossip site X, Isaacs penned, "Saw you presenting on the Tonys tonight son - you looked good, sounded good and did great. Tickets booked for November x."

Of course, not all Potter alumni see eye-to-eye on this issue, and while some—like Felton—sit on the fence, the trans community and its allies continue to champion their cause for acceptance, representation, and equality.

As a responsible journalist, we must report the facts, not indiscriminately stir the cauldron. With that said, keep abreast of the latest in the turbulent Potterverse by sticking around for our exclusive coverage.
