British actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, born in Wales, has had a storied career spanning both theater and screen. Her love for the stage began as a child, and it remains a passion to this day.

Zeta-Jones made her mark in musical theater with her successful experience in the film adaptation of "Chicago" in 2002. Her performance earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, as well as critical acclaim. The actress also won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" in 2009.

Despite her success in musical theater, Zeta-Jones found it challenging to focus on theater last year, possibly due to her constant filming commitments. However, a return to the stage is not entirely ruled out. The actress has stated that while good musicals can be very good, bad ones can be terrible. She considers musicals to be a bit of a gamble.

In recent years, Zeta-Jones' focus has shifted more towards screen projects. She starred in the jukebox musical comedy "Rock of Ages" in 2012 and reprised her role as Morticia Addams in the Netflix series "Wednesday," which has just started its second season. Zeta-Jones gets to sing in her role in "Wednesday," a testament to her love for musical theater.

As of August 2025, Zeta-Jones has not announced specific new musical return plans or future stage projects. Her recent work has primarily been on film and television, including the upcoming Disney+ "National Treasure" series.

Theater, however, remains close to Zeta-Jones' heart. She considers it to be "true love" for her. Despite the challenges, it is not inconceivable that we might see her grace the stage once more in the future.
