Actor Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, known for his role in 'The Witcher,' and co-showrunner of 'Blackport,' readies Icelandic romantic tragedy 'Klara' in collaboration with 'Lamb' co-writer Sjón. Exclusive information.
In the picturesque landscape of Iceland, a new production is taking shape. "Klara," a romantic tragedy set in the early 1940s, is being developed by Björn Hlynur Haraldsson and his team, including Vesturport and Stella Harnstroem.
With a budget of $5.8 million, the production team is seeking financing, co-production, and distribution partners at Haugesund's New Nordic Films market, which runs through Aug. 22. The story revolves around a female medium with a unique connection to the supernatural who approaches a grieving husband and police detective in Reykjavik, promising him news from the afterlife.
Haraldsson, known for his roles in "The Witcher," "The Borgias," and "Lamb," has a long-standing fascination with the blurred line between faith and deception, especially when people are grieving and looking for meaning. He will be fully behind the camera for "Klara," having decided not to play in the film.
Rakel Gardarsdottir and Agusta M. Olafsdottir, from Vesturport, are producers for "Klara." Sjón, co-writer of "The Northman" and Oscar-nominated for his lyrics in "Dancer in the Dark," is also a producer for the film. Vesturport, Iceland's leading talent hub, is producing "Klara."
The idea for "Klara" comes from a real case in Iceland in the early 1940s involving a celebrated medium whose life intersected with crime, grief, and wartime politics. Haraldsson finds inspiration for "Klara" in the 1945 Gene-Tierney-led classic 'Leave Her to Heaven' for its atmosphere, underlying ambiguity, and lush Technicolor palette.
Haraldsson is also preparing another commercially-oriented English-language project titled "In a Lifetime," which he's written for Kristin Scott Thomas.
Iceland's lavish landscape is seen as a vital reference for "Klara," with its sharp winter, narrow wartime streets, and ability to shift between beauty and menace. Björn Hlynur Haraldsson is teaming up with Sjón on this intriguing project.
At this time, there is no public information available about international actors currently in negotiations with Björn Hlynur Haraldsson for leading roles in the film "Klara."
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting production.
