Conversin' with Keoghan: Ringo Starr Plays Drums for Me

Barry Keoghan, that handsome Irish lad (32), who's gonna play drummer extraordinaire Ringo Starr in the upcoming Beatles film series, absolutely gushes about his initial encounter with Starr (84). Keoghan dropped by Starr's crib, and the musician gave him a drummin' show he'll never forget, Keoghan spilled the beans on the late-night chuckle fest "Jimmy Kimmel Live!". It was like a wallop of awe, kid. "He asked me to get behind the kit, but I didn't bash the drums for Ringo," Keoghan acknowledged.

The silver screen sensation, star of flicks like "The Banshees of Inisherin" and "Saltburn", confessed he was as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rockin' chairs. Couldn't even meet Starr's gaze, not at first. But that's just the job, to observationally study every idiosyncrasy under the sun. For his role, he's gotta nail Ringo Starr, not impersonate him, the actor asserted. Course, he'll be practicing those drum sticks, the thespian assured.

In November, Starr gave the thumbs up for the casting with Keoghan. It's a "winner," Starr said in a chat with the US show "Entertainment Tonight" about rumors that Keoghan would portray the drummer on the big screen. "I reckon he's polishing up his drum chops somewhere, and let's hope it's not too often," the musician grinned.

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes is bringing the Beatles legacy to life with a four-picture bash, set for release in April 2028. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with the families of the late Beatle members John Lennon and George Harrison, have given film rights for their life stories and tracks.

Paul Mescal is slated to play Paul McCartney. Harris Dickinson will tackle John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn will take on George Harrison.

Mendes ("American Beauty", "1917"), who directed the likes of "James Bond: Skyfall" and "James Bond: Spectre", is planning to spin each yarn from one of the Fab Four's perspectives. The Liverpool quartet ignited Beatlemania worldwide in the 60s with tunes like "Let It Be", "Help", and "Yesterday". They called it quits in 1970.
