Actor Alison Brie from Scream 4 criticizes the contemporary installments of the horror franchise for permitting excessive survivals, yet expresses dissent towards one specific death scene: "That was an error."
Alison Brie Critiques Current Era of Scream Franchise
Actress Alison Brie, known for her role as Rebecca Walters in Scream 4, has expressed her concerns about the current direction of the Scream franchise. In a recent podcast appearance, Brie, joined by her husband and Together co-star Dave Franco, discussed the popular horror series.
Brie criticised the franchise for letting too many core characters survive, stating that "the core four needs to die." She believes that key originals, such as Dewey Riley, should not have been killed off, and she humorously suggested that by Scream 7 there should be only two of the core four remaining.
Regarding her own character in Scream 4, Brie noted that although her character dies brutally, there could be a chance to bring her back. She even humorously suggested a possible return in a dream sequence for Scream 7.
Dave Franco agreed with Brie, stating that Dewey's death was sad and a mistake. In fact, David Arquette's character, Dewey, was killed off in Scream 5. As of now, only Sidney Prescott and Gail Weathers, the original characters, remain in the "core four."
Interestingly, the new main cast of Scream 5 and 6, Tara and Sam Carpenter, are still alive. Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher is being brought back in Scream 7. However, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera will not return for the upcoming film.
Scream 7 is set to release in theaters on February 27, 2026. Brie, who has previously voiced her love for the Scream franchise, expressed her hopes for a more dramatic and intense continuation of the series.
