Actor-actress duo Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman will take on lead roles in the upcoming film adaptation of "The Love Hypothesis".

The upcoming film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's bestselling novel, "The Love Hypothesis," is set to create a unique cultural moment, as it brings together elements of fan fiction, academia, and personal relationships.

Initially inspired by the "Reylo" ship (Rey and Kylo Ren) from the Star Wars universe, the novel follows the story of a PhD student, Olive Smith, and a professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen, who fake a relationship, blending romance with academic life. The film, produced by Elizabeth Cantillon, will see Lili Reinhart playing Olive Smith, with Tom Bateman cast as Dr. Adam Carlsen.

Bateman, a British actor known for roles in Da Vinci's Demons and Murder on the Orient Express, is married to Daisy Ridley, who gained fame for her portrayal of Rey in the Star Wars saga. The connection between the book and the film takes an interesting turn with Bateman playing the male lead opposite a different actress in the adaptation.

The original novel was inspired by fan fiction involving Ridley’s character Rey, adding an additional layer of intrigue as Bateman (Ridley's husband) plays the male lead opposite Reinhart. Daisy Ridley herself acknowledged the connection publicly, expressing excitement about the book and its fan fiction roots linked to her character’s storyline.

Sarah Rothschild, who wrote "The Sleepover," will pen the script for the film. Filmmaker Claire Scanlon, known for "Set It Up," will direct the production. Filming for "The Love Hypothesis" will take place in the United States, with specific locations and start dates yet to be disclosed by Amazon.

The book's cover art features characters with similar characteristics to Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, hinting at the original inspiration. Dr. Adam Carlsen, the character played by Tom Bateman, was originally inspired by Adam Driver's character in Star Wars.

Tom Bateman will play the character Dr. Adam Carlsen, a renowned and strict professor, in the film. The romantic story set in the academic world promises to be an exciting adaptation of the beloved novel.

With its unique connection to Star Wars fan fiction and the personal lives of the actors, "The Love Hypothesis" is set to captivate audiences when it hits the screens.

Movies-and-tv enthusiasts will eagerly anticipate the upcoming adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's "The Love Hypothesis," a film that intertwines elements of academia, romance, and fan fiction. The entertainment industry collaboration, produced by Elizabeth Cantillon, features Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith and Tom Bateman as Dr. Adam Carlsen, a character originating from the Star Wars universe-inspired fan fiction.
