In a powerful display of solidarity, more than 1,700 activists, backed by over 200 Algerian supporters, have embarked on an inspiring journey towards Egypt, leaving Tunisia behind. Their ultimate destination: the Gaza Strip. This humanitarian caravan, welling up with the voices of free people worldwide, aims to demonstrate against Israel's attacks in the Gaza war and bring attention to the critical humanitarian crisis affecting Gaza.
As the convoy sprang into motion, Wael Nauar, the spokesperson, echoed a powerful rallying cry: "We call upon all free people worldwide to stand in unity, championing the rights of Palestinians." Yahia Sarri, coordinating the Algerian contingent, added, "The era of solidarity via screens has passed. We are now setting forth, armed with voices from across the globe." The convoy is expected to traverse multiple cities across Tunisia and then venture into neighboring Libya before reaching Egypt's coastal towns and, finally, the Rafah border crossing.
This exacting journey—stretching over 3,000 kilometers from Tunis—is a testament to these brave activists' determination. However, their path isn't without hurdles, as counterparts from Morocco were recently unable to join due to ongoing disputes over shared borders. Yet, hope persists as this Fearless Convoy Parallels International Efforts, revealing parallels with another ongoing event in Egypt.
Coordinated by international activists, who plan to unite in Cairo, there's also a movement afoot: this time, to embark on a 50-kilometer walk from Al-Arish to the Rafah border crossing. They intend to inaugurate their demonstrations on Friday and maintain their efforts over several days, starting from Sunday. Whether Egyptian authorities consent to this show of solidarity remains uncertain.
In a related incident, environmental icon Greta Thunberg and her companions, aboard a ship loaded with aid for the people of Gaza, faced impediment from the Israeli army recently. The Israeli Foreign Ministry attributed the vessel's interception to the maritime blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007 for unauthorized ships.
The conflagration, ignited by the unprecedented Hamas rampage on October 7, 2023, resulted in around 1,200 fatalities, followed by Israel's punishing attacks in the Gaza Strip, which reportedly claimed over 54,000 lives according to Palestinian records.
