Activists Demand Freedom for Disabled Individual Held by ICE
In a show of solidarity and demand for justice, over two dozen individuals gathered outside the ICE field office in Atlanta last Friday. The rally was organised in support of Rodney Taylor, a man currently in ICE custody at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.
Taylor, who was brought to the United States by the Shriners organisation at the age of two for extensive surgeries due to disabilities in his legs and arms, has been in ICE custody since January, following a 30-year-old burglary charge. The charge was later pardoned by the state.
According to Taylor's fiancée, Mildred Pierre, his final hearing in the case was in August, and it has been more than 30 days without a ruling. Taylor's legal team is pleading for his release from prison, stating that he is not being cared for properly. Reports of excruciating pain experienced by Taylor in prison have surfaced.
The rallygoers, holding signs and wearing t-shirts calling for Taylor's immediate release, chanted slogans such as 'Let him come home. Let him come home,' 'You can't stop the revolution; abolishing ICE is the solution,' and 'No justice, no peace.' They also chanted 'One day that he's there longer, one day he's provided limited access to food,' expressing their concerns about his current situation.
ICE stated that all aspects of the case will be considered, and it must go through due process legally. However, the rallygoers continue to call for Taylor's immediate release, citing the facts that he was doing everything the government asked of him before being taken from his family and that he has been in custody for months without a verdict.
The website spoke with a representative from ICE about this case, but the search results do not provide information about the judge presiding over Rodney Taylor's case or the date of the verdict hearing or announcement. The rally for Rodney Taylor's release is a call for transparency and justice in a case that has left many questioning the fairness of the system.
