Activist Greta Thunberg Embarks on Gaza Bound Journey with Freedom Flotilla Coalition

Swedish Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Joins Gaza-Bound Freedom Flotilla

Greta Thunberg, the renowned Swedish climate activist, will embark on a boat trip to the Gaza Strip this Sunday as part of the Freedom Flotilla, a coalition seeking to challenge Israel's ongoing blockade on aid deliveries. The announcement was made by French-Palestinian EU MP Rima Hassan.

Hassan, a member of the French far-left party LFI, plans to join the flotilla alongside Thunberg. The aim of the mission is to protest against Israel's restrictions on aid and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which the MP has referred to as "genocide."

Hassan's participation and recent statements about the Palestinian territory have been controversial in France. Previously, she was reportedly denied entry to Israel as part of an EU parliamentary trip.

Thunberg had initially attempted to join the Freedom Flotilla in May, only for the ship to be damaged on route. Activists alleged that Israel was responsible for the damage, a claim Israel denies. Thunberg has been an advocate for the Palestinians for some time, previously participating in pro-Palestinian protests.

The conflict between Israel and Gaza was triggered by a large-scale attack by Hamas and allied fighters on Israel on October 7, 2023. The incident resulted in the death of around 1,210 people, according to Israeli figures. Israel responded with extensive military operations in the Gaza Strip, leading to the death of over 54,000 people so far, according to figures from the Hamas-controlled health ministry.

It is the second time Thunberg has attempted to join the Freedom Flotilla. Despite the challenges and risks, Thunberg remains committed to using her platform to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to breaking the blockade by sea.

In light of the ongoing political tension between Israel and Gaza, Greta Thunberg, the Swedish climate activist, has decided to join the Parliament's resolution on the Commission communication on the future of the European Union, focusing on the war-and-conflicts in the Middle East, especially the Israeli blockade on Gaza, as part of her plan to create general-news awareness about the humanitarian crisis in the region. Thunberg's involvement in the Freedom Flotilla, aiming to challenge the Israeli blockade, is a testament to her dedication to using her platform for advocacy, despite the risks involved.
