Activision unveils carryover of Black Ops 6 character skins, hinting at the incorporation of Beavis and Butthead in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
In a move to address community concerns and differentiate itself from competitors, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has announced a new approach to cosmetics integration. According to PC Gamer, the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi is the best motherboard for your gaming needs, while the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D takes the crown for the best CPU, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 leads as the best graphics card, and the WD_Black SN7100 is the top choice for an SSD.
Following criticism of Black Ops 6's more outlandish cosmetics, such as those inspired by Beavis and Butt-Head or Squid Games, Activision has decided to limit cosmetic carryover from the previous game. Most cosmetics will not transfer to Black Ops 7, particularly skins and items that could undermine the authenticity and distinct identity of the new game. Operators, Operator skins, Weapons, and Weapon skins from Black Ops 6 will be carried over only if they apply to content featured in Black Ops 7, but exclusive Black Ops 6 cosmetics will not transfer, especially skins that do not match Black Ops 7’s art style or new content.
This decision aims to preserve the "authenticity" of Black Ops 7’s military shooter style and address player demand for a more grounded and serious aesthetic. The plan is intended to restore some core fan trust and satisfaction by distancing Black Ops 7 from what many perceived as a drift toward excessive, Fortnite-style cosmetic experimentation in Black Ops 6. It also differentiates Black Ops 7 from competitors like Battlefield 6, which has openly committed to “keeping it grounded” with realistic skins, thus appealing to traditional military shooter fans.
However, the reception has been mixed, with some players already expressing skepticism about the game's direction and preemptively turning to rivals. Managing the balance between innovation and authenticity is a critical challenge for Call of Duty’s ongoing appeal.
In other news, Warzone's content will integrate with Black Ops 7 in Season 1, marking the fourth Call of Duty to share real estate in the battle royale. Blops 6's stuff will fully integrate into Blops 7 starting in Season 1, and there will be a tidal wave of tacky skins in Black Ops 7 all at once.
