Get ready, gamers! Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is on its way, and the annual reveal event, Call of Duty Next, is happening on September 30. Here's what we know so far about the upcoming game.

Co-op Campaign and Global Progression System

The campaign in Black Ops 7 is fully co-op playable with up to four players or solo, offering a shared, handcrafted mission experience with varied tone and pacing across locations like Japan, the Mediterranean coast, and psychological environments. The story is set in 2035, about a decade after Black Ops 2, and can be enjoyed standalone.

A global progression system connects all game modes (Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies), where every elimination, objective, and breakthrough in any mode contributes to a unified Global XP. This system reinforces cross-mode engagement and progression, allowing players to progress battle passes and unlock exclusive weapon camos by delving into the endgame content.

High-stakes Power Curve Journey

The campaign introduces a high-stakes power curve journey where players build characters with unique perks and abilities not found in the standard missions. If the entire squad is wiped out during an excursion, character progress is lost, adding genuine jeopardy and endgame challenge akin to a Destiny raid.

Revamped Multiplayer and Scorestreaks

In multiplayer, Treyarch has rebuilt core gameplay systems with a revamped Omnimovement system, enhancing player mobility and combat flow. Multiplayer at launch includes sixteen 6v6 maps and two large 20v20 maps, continuing the series signature competitive experience.

Notably, the classic Pick 10 system is absent, which marks a significant departure from previous Black Ops titles. Instead, scorestreaks mechanics offer new dynamics, such as a perk that allows "looping streaks," enabling players to cycle through multiple streak rewards in a single life if they prioritize this perk, adding strategic depth to perk choices and streak gameplay.

Zombies are Back and Avalon Map

The game also returns the Round-Based Zombies mode with updates and fan-service elements maintained but within the integrated progression system. A Warzone-like map called Avalon will be used in the campaign.

Multiplayer Showcase and Open Beta

The uninterrupted multiplayer gameplay of Black Ops 7 will be showcased at CoD Next on September 30. The Black Ops 7 open beta begins on October 2.

Morgan Park, a staff writer at PC Gamer since 2018, will be covering the latest news and developments about Black Ops 7 and other shooter games. Morgan has appeared on Polygon, Kotaku, Fanbyte, and PCGamesN, in addition to his work at PC Gamer.

All Black Ops 6 weapons and cosmetics will carry forward into Black Ops 7, but not until Season 1. Unlock challenges, a popular progression mechanic from Modern Warfare 3 (2023), are returning in Black Ops 7, tying attachment and weapon unlocks to weekly challenges.

The Wall Jump is a new movement feature in Black Ops 7, allowing players to evade or outmaneuver their pursuers while increasing traversal capabilities. Campaign and multiplayer cross-progression is included in Black Ops 7.
