Acting Veteran from 'White Lotus' Expresses Concern Over Youth Actors Due to Obsession with Cosmetic Procedures
Sam Nivola Speaks Out on Hollywood's Ageing Stars and Plastic Surgery
Sam Nivola, the rising star who gained prominence on the third season of "The White Lotus," has made a bold claim about the impact of plastic surgery on Hollywood's opportunities for up-and-coming actors. In a new interview with Variety, Nivola expressed his concerns about older Hollywood stars undergoing cosmetic procedures to look younger, thus preventing younger talent from breaking through.
Nivola believes that this trend negatively impacts opportunities for up-and-coming actors. He argues that these older actors, by staying young through plastic surgery, continue to play young roles that should be given to their younger counterparts. This, according to Nivola, reduces the space for emerging actors to make a name for themselves.
"The old movie stars are getting plastic surgery, and they’re looking younger," Nivola stated. "You have these really old people playing young roles. And it’s not giving any space for the young’uns to move in."
Nivola acknowledges that this trend won't last forever, as the older stars "won’t be here anymore, literally." He emphasises the necessity for Hollywood to create new stars and move away from relying on cosmetic enhancements to maintain the careers of aging actors.
However, Nivola does give an exception to Timothée Chalamet, whom he considers a genuinely new kind of movie star who represents youthful talent without relying on such cosmetic enhancement.
Nivola's remarks about cosmetic surgery drew a heated response on social media, with some users suggesting his stance was indicative of ageism. Others praised Nivola for speaking out about an issue that has long been a topic of discussion within the industry.
Despite the controversy, Nivola is proud of having achieved success on his own terms. He didn't want anyone to be able to say his achievements were due to anyone other than himself. Nivola portrayed Lochlan Ratliff in "The White Lotus," and since then, he has received numerous offers to play similar characters.
Nivola hopes for his next role to be something different. He expressed admiration for Tom Cruise while suggesting that cosmetic procedures have made it more challenging for younger actors to reach Cruise's stature. Nivola also admires Timotheé Chalamet and considers him "one of the best actors alive" and a "total star."
In the interview, Nivola also addressed the "nepo baby" implication, stating that he didn't get his father's agent to call up for roles. He is proud that he's achieved success on his own, and some social media users wrote that they liked Nivola better before he spoke out.
The interview was published on Thursday, and it will be interesting to see how Nivola's comments will impact his career in Hollywood.
- Sam Nivola's concerns about older Hollywood stars undergoing plastic surgery extend beyond just opportunities for up-and-coming actors, as he argues that these procedures often lead to older celebrities taking roles intended for their younger counterparts in pop-culture.
- In the same interview, Nivola also expressed his admiration for the natural talent of Tom Cruise and Timothée Chalamet, both of whom he believes stand out amidst the excessive reliance on cosmetic enhancements in the entertainment industry.
