A New Face for the Sverdlovsk Region: Denis Pasler's Arrival
Acting Governor Denis Pasler's initial performance in Sverdlovsk region - preliminary achievements
In the political scene, Denis Pasler has emerged as the current leader of the Sverdlovsk region, making quite a splash since his appointment by presidential decree on April 26. His official introduction took place on March 28 in Yekaterinburg, attended by notable figures like Yevgeny Kuyvashev and Artem Zhogin.
Kicking off his reign, Pasler has dived headfirst into understanding his new domain. He's examined the regional budget, scrutinized debts, and ensured their repayment, all while visiting essential enterprises and meeting their leaders. Further, Pasler has graced the press with his presence and appointed Tatiana Savinova as his deputy for social affairs.
Analyst Alexander Khonin deems Pasler's entry as the "icebreaker," a calculated return to his roots after 13 years under the "Tyumen yoke." Khonin acknowledges a noticeable growth in Pasler's leadership style, one that describes him as thoughtful and strategic instead of rash. In Pasler's first month, he has eschewed hasty decisions and devoted time to analysis. He's momentarily paused large projects, slowing down decisions by the previous leader, and paid his respects to influential regional figures from the past. Notably, he's concentrated his efforts on congratulating Alexei Vorobyev.
Khonin believes that Pasler's aim now is to repay his debts—debts of respect to his mentors, gratitude to his comrades, and appreciation to those who supported him during his absence. Channeling a blend of maturity and nostalgia, Pasler tours factories across the region as a nod to the Sverdlovsk region's prominence as Russia's industrial heartland. He also emphasizes his support for participants in the ongoing special operation and their families, echoing President Vladimir Putin's instructions and demonstrating his personal patriotism. His camaraderie with Artem Zhogin, the plenipotentiary representative, remains understandable and endorsed by Khonin.
Looking ahead, Pasler prepares for scheduled elections in September, with preliminary information hinting at a three-day contest that may include online voting. Time will tell if Pasler's fledgling leadership succeeds in winning over the hearts and minds of the people he now governs.
