Preparing for the Future: Automated Counting Machines Arrive in Cebu for 2025 Elections

Get ready, Cebu! With the 2025 national and local elections just around the corner, a grand total of 1,624 Automated Counting Machines (ACMs) have been distributed across 32 municipalities and cities in the region. Here's a lowdown on what you need to know about this game-changing tech.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Region 7 Director Francisco Pobe reveals that the deployment of these ACMs began on April 30, taking place over two days in two phases. The main focus was to prioritize geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas to make sure every polling precinct is prepped and ready on Election Day.

Day one saw the delivery of 709 ACMs to Toledo City and several other municipalities, such as Aloguinsan, Pinamungahan, Balamban, Asturias, Oslob, Santander, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian, Moalboal, Dumanjug, Barili, and San Fernando. The second day of distribution covered 915 ACMs, making their way to Daanbantayan, Madellin, Bogo City, Tabogon, Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Danao City, Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Pilar, Tudela, Poro, San Francisco (Camotes), and Cordova. The dispatch of election paraphernalia continues until May 8.

This early deployment is part of a broader initiative to rollout 4,500 ACMs throughout Central Visayas, covering both Cebu and Bohol provinces. As of now, all 48 municipalities in Bohol have received their machines, and deliveries to other parts of the region are still ongoing.

Pobe guarantees that meticulous care is being taken in handling the logistics, working alongside the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to maintain the machines' safety and integrity. Election officers are also undergoing orientation and training to get them ready for using the ACMs effectively.

The ACMs are set to revolutionize the ballot counting and transmission of results processes, speeding things up while ensuring transparency and credibility in the upcoming polls. Each municipality's election office will be in charge of all the distributed election paraphernalia, which will then be distributed to their respective polling precincts.
