  • Spying on Bernadette, Toutious Sexius, and Davide Surilie
  • Should you bring down Glarthir?
  • Grabbing Glarthir's goods after his demise

Getting your hands on new questlines in Oblivion Remastered usually involves a lucky break, like stabbing someone to join the Dark Brotherhood or sneaking into a mage's lair for the Mages Guild. But in Skingrad, one of the game's major cities, you'll stumble across a sinister quest that's ripe for mischief.

Paranoia, as it's called, is a thrilling adventure that can go in several unexpected directions. In this guide, we'll show you how to get started and the various ways to complete the quest while making a tidy profit along the way.

Initiating the Paranoia Quest

As soon as you enter Skingrad for the first time, keep your eyes peeled for a shady wood elf named Glarthir. Once you've crossed paths, he'll approach you and ask you to meet him behind the city's Great Chapel of Julianos at midnight. Agree to the meeting, and you'll be well on your way to launching the Paranoia quest.

When you chat with Glarthir, you'll quickly realize that something ain't quite right about him. He believes everyone else in town is in on a conspiracy against him. Convince him that you're willing to help, and he'll task you with following different people around town and reporting back to him each night, letting him know whether his suspicions are warranted or not.

If you're not feeling this whole "watching people" vibe, you can decline his offer and complete the quest. However, this will result in Glarthir grabbing a battleaxe and attempting to take out the person he asked you to tail - Bernadette Peneles.

On the other hand, if you decide to help him out, wait outside Glarthir's house at 6 AM. He suspects Bernadette is spying on him at this time, so do your best to be an invisible decoy for a few minutes.

Following Bernadette, Toutious Sexius, and Davide Surilie

If you stick with Glarthir, you'll soon be given your next assignment - tailing Bernadette. You can either follow the breadcrumbs to Bernadette's house and wait for her, or skip time to the next day and then follow her.

Keep in mind that Dion, the guard captain, might approach you during this time and inquire about your interest in Glarthir. He'll warn you that the local eccentric could be dangerous and advise you against working with him.

Dodging his questions, you'll find that Bernadette isn't actually spying on Glarthir. But remember: if you lie to Glarthir about what you found, you'll be rewarded with a cool 150 gold pieces!

Your next mission will be to keep tabs on Toutious Sexius. Similar to the previous assignment, you can choose to follow him, or speed up time to the next evening and report back to Glarthir.

However, Dion might return to warn you about being nosey around Glarthir again. Apparently, following people isn't a crime - yet.

But lo and behold, just like a Barry White slow jam, Toutious ain't checking on Glarthir either. Once again, you have the option to lie to Glarthir and rake in another 150 gold pieces.

Finally, Glarthir will brief you on your last assignment: following Davide Surilie. As usual, you can follow Davide or skip ahead to report to Glarthir with your findings. If you told Glarthir the truth up until this point, tell him the straight-up again. But be warned, as honesty might have terrible consequences.

Betrayal and Rewards

If you've been truthful with Glarthir, he'll go off the deep end and attack YOU. Yeah, it's one heck of a turn-up. But hey, at least it winds up the quest!

Now, if you've chosen to lie to Glarthir up until this point, he'll give you one final mission: offing those named on a nefarious piece of paper he hands you for a big ol' 1,000 gold reward. That's enough to make a saint question their morals.

Grabbing Glarthir's Stuff After He's Gone

Even if you choose to kill Glarthir, rat him out to the guards, or inform the Surilie brothers about his assassination attempts (if they're on the list), there's still a chance to fatten your wallet.

Once Glarthir is six feet under, whether from your hand or someone else's, grab his house key and head to his place, right near Bernadette Peneles' home. Search the basket near the door, and you'll find a tasty 800 gold pieces. Make sure to poke around the rest of his house - you might find other valuable items to sell. After all, being "morally grey" doesn't have to be penny-pinching.
