Achievements of the young rower from Saarbrücken in Cologne - a double victory in the premium races
The rowing season 2025 is in full swing, and the Saarbrücken rowing society, Undine, has already made a significant impact. The society's junior rowers dominated the recent regatta in Cologne, achieving a remarkable twelve victories.
Fabrice Rhein and Fritz Mönch, both from Undine, triumphed in the U17 and U19 single sculls respectively. Dylan Hild, another promising talent, clinched the lightweight single sculls of junior men, while Aurel Russ took the single sculls title.
In a close-fought competition, Anneke Ihmann and Livia Wolff won the lightweight double sculls of U19, just edging out their clubmates Maya Steimer and Antonia Mayer. Aurel Russ and Dylan Hild teamed up to win the double sculls as well.
The younger U17 starters, Frieda Schneider, Max Beck, Jason Grün, and Carl Wolff, put in impressive performances at their first major regattas in Cologne.
The quartet of Ihmann, Wolff, Steimer, and Mayer also won the double sculls event. Maya Steimer and Antonia Mayer also claimed victory in the lightweight double sculls of U19.
Looking ahead, numerous rowers from Undine will represent the society at regattas in Heidelberg, Hamburg, and Ratzeburg at the end of May. The younger rowers will compete in Saarburg this coming weekend.
Meanwhile, the German boat in the women's eight will face one of the strongest fields in recent years at the European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Paula Gerundt is preparing for this challenging event.
Eight nations, including Olympic champions Romania, Great Britain, and the Netherlands, will participate in the European Rowing Championships, which will take place from May 29 to June 1. The preliminary rounds will begin on May 29 at 15:09, with the final scheduled for June 1 at 11:45.
The success at the Cologne regatta serves as a promising sign for Undine as they gear up for the European Rowing Championships. The society's impressive performances and the upcoming challenges promise an exciting rowing season ahead.
