Shining Star on the Rise: Amdi Gaye, Germany's Potential High Jump Champion
Meet Amdi Gaye, a promising contender set to make waves in the world of high jump. Hailing from Kreis Plön, this homegrown talent is already being touted as one of Germany's future champions.
Amdi Gaye has made a name for himself with a personal best of 2.09 meters, grabbing the runner-up spot at the German U20 Championships. On April 28, he was recognized among 56 other athletes at the Schellhorner Gildehus during the Kreissportverband (KSV) Plön's annual sports awards ceremony.
This wasn't his first time at the regional sports awards. In fact, Amdi has attended the event a total of four times, showcasing the successes he's achieved for the year being recognized in 133 titles and placements across 12 sports and 11 clubs. The achievements are a testament to the thriving sports scene in Kreis Plön, as noted by KSV's broad sports representative Jürgen Müller.
The evening was filled with pride, as Kreispresidentin Hildegard Mersmann expressed in her laudation. She admired the impressive performances and stressed that with passion, discipline, and a positive attitude, anything is possible. Mersmann also highlighted the vital role of coaches who nurture and inspire their students, often when they doubt themselves. The unsung heroes were also recognized - the tireless volunteers who work diligently in the background. "Without this 'team behind the team', no starting shot would fall, no paddle would hit the water, no ball would reach its target."
A special honor was bestowed upon weightlifting coach Lutz Jarre for his over four decades of active athletics, successful coaching, and versatile volunteer work. Today, Jarre serves as head coach of performance sports in the Schleswig-Holstein weightlifting federation, the 2nd chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein weightlifting federation, and the head of the weightlifting department in the Preetzer TSV.
Beyond athletic achievements, Kreis Plön also honors the invaluable contributions of volunteers, often the unseen forces that make sports possible. At this year's sports awards, the sports badge team of TSV Klausdorf was recognized "for their impressive and exemplary work, which they have been doing week after week for 51 years with measuring tape, stopwatch, and above all with enthusiasm for those on the sports field who want to compete and improve themselves." The team, led by Renate von Elm, Uwe Nehlsen, Uta Weber, Angela and Rolf Siewert, Hanna Siercks, Karl-Heinz Wiese, and Peter Kiek, encapsulates the essence of volunteer work: dedication, participation, responsibility, and quiet strength in the background.
The following athletes were honored:

Despite his achievements in high jump not being as widely recognized in sports annals as other German athletes, Amdi Gaye's passion for football is equally noteworthy. He has shown remarkable agility and precision while playing for TSV Klausdorf's football team, demonstrating that his talent extends beyond the high jump pit.
