Achievements for Ceci Lee in Hong Kong, yet her coach plays down expectations prior to China Championships
In the recently concluded Hong Kong Track Championships, local cycling star Ceci Lee Sze-wing dominated a five-woman field in the omnium, securing a twin triumph at the event. Meanwhile, Chu Tsun-wai emerged victorious in the men's omnium competition.
Ceci Lee's performances were impressive, as she won both the omnium and the elimination race. Boey Leung Bo-yee finished second in the elimination race, while Guardiola Cheung Li-tong claimed the second spot in the omnium, 29 points behind the victorious Lee.
The men's omnium, on the other hand, featured a larger field of 23 riders. Chu Tsun-wai, who will turn 25 next Wednesday, returned to finish sixth in an elimination race but managed to secure the overall win in the men's omnium. Tso Kai-kwong finished second in the men's omnium.
Hervé Dagorne, a commentator, commented on Lee's twin triumph, but noted that due to the big gap in level and the small number of participants, the results cannot be fully analysed. He also commented on the competitive nature of the men's races, stating that points were available for National Games selection and that Chu performed strongly.
Ng Pak-hang, another local cycling star, also had a successful Hong Kong Track Championships. He won the elimination race at the event and also clinched the gold in the Hong Kong International Track Cup scratch race in April.
The Hong Kong Track Championships continue over the weekend with the sprint, scratch, keirin, and points disciplines. Following the event, the Hong Kong squad will relocate to Shanghai for the China Track National Championships from July 10 to 16.
