Thomas Partey, a Ghanaian midfielder, is set to appear in court on Tuesday, accused of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault. The charges, which involve two women in North London and a luxury hotel in Spain between 2021 and 2022, were authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Partey, who was still playing for Arsenal when the accusations began, is facing six charges in total. He is charged with five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman.

The CPS initiated an investigation into Partey's alleged offences in February 2022, a process that took more than three years to complete. The charges were made public shortly before his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June 2025.

Partey, who has since signed a contract with the Spanish football club Villarreal, has denied all charges and expressed a desire to clear his name. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has stated that he wants an opportunity to prove his innocence.

The defendant will have the right to a fair trial, as is guaranteed by law. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 2, 2025, at the Old Bailey.

The news of Partey's charges has sparked controversy among football fans, with some expressing disappointment on social media regarding his signing by Villarreal. Some have even created a petition in disapproval of the contract, while others have flooded the club's fan mailbox in protest.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, the prosecution is based on a comprehensive file of evidence, ensuring a thorough investigation into the matter. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Anyone affected by this case is urged to contact the Crown Prosecution Service for investigation purposes.
