Accused of rape: Achraf Hakimi, PSG footballer, after bringing a woman he connected with on Instagram to his family residence
Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan international footballer and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star, is facing a rape trial following an incident in 2023. On August 1, 2025, French prosecutors formally requested that Hakimi be tried in criminal court for allegedly raping a young woman.
According to reports, the woman claimed she visited Hakimi's home in a taxi paid for by him, after which Hakimi allegedly made non-consensual sexual advances and raped her. She managed to break free and contact a friend to pick her up.
Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations, and his lawyer described the prosecutors' call for trial as "incomprehensible and senseless in light of the case's elements." The lawyer stated that they will pursue all appeals if the trial proceeds.
If convicted, Hakimi could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years under French law. The victim's lawyer expressed relief at the decision to move forward with the trial.
This case is still ongoing, with the trial process expected to follow the prosecutors' request to formally charge Hakimi in court.
Hakimi's career has not been without high points, as he won the Champions League with PSG last season. His personal life has been under scrutiny since the allegations surfaced, with his wife, Spanish-Turkish actress Hiba Abouk, reportedly on holiday in Dubai with their two young sons at the time.
The alleged victim's lawyer expressed opposition to any smear or destabilization campaign against her client. PSG has also stated that it trusts the justice system in handling Hakimi's case.
The alleged incident occurred on February 25, 2023, and Hakimi was charged with rape on March 3, 2023, and bailed under police supervision after being held in custody. The investigating judge will make a decision about a possible trial within the framework of his order.
The case stems from an encounter between Hakimi and the alleged victim, who met on Instagram in January of that year. Hakimi has filed a countersuit against the alleged victim. His legal team described the complaint against him as "attempted racketeering."
