Accused of being a pedophile, the individual eludes legal consequences in Italy
Convicted Pedophile Jaanus Konsa Arrested and Extradited to Estonia
Jaanus Konsa, a former Estonian state official, was apprehended in Italy on June 30, 2022, and extradited to Estonia. Konsa, who was convicted of several pedophile offenses in 2017, is now facing additional charges related to child pornography and sexually enticing a minor.
In 2017, Konsa was sentenced to two years and two months in prison for his crimes. However, he only served half of his sentence, with the remainder suspended for five years. During this period, from 2011 to 2016, Konsa kept about 300 photo and video files depicting minors in erotic or pornographic situations at his residence.
Prosecutors in Estonia accuse Konsa of making and distributing child pornography, writing and distributing texts describing the rape of minors, and downloading and forwarding photos depicting minors having sexual intercourse. Konsa also attempted to find a sexual partner who was underage via the Snapchat communication app.
Monika Mägi, a commissioner at the criminal bureau of the North Prefecture of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, confirmed Konsa's apprehension to Elu24. It was also reported that Konsa persuaded minors to pose for him in pornographic situations in front of a webcam via internet portals and deliberately tempted interlocutors on Snapchat to engage in sexual intercourse.
In late September 2021, the police declared Konsa a wanted person. An additional charge against Konsa is committing an act of a sexual nature against a boy under the age of 14 in 2015. However, no minors met with Konsa, so there were no direct victims of his actions.
Konsa is currently in custody in Estonia and is scheduled to appear in court at Harju County Court in August 2024. It is important to note that child pornography and the sexual exploitation of minors are serious crimes with devastating consequences for the victims and their families. The authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served in this case.
The arrest and extradition of Jaanus Konsa has sparked a renewed interest in the general-news and crime-and-justice sections, as Konsa, a former Estonian state official, is now facing additional charges related to child pornography and sexually enticing a minor. Prosecutors in Estonia are accusing Konsa of making and distributing child pornography, among other offenses, and he is currently in custody, facing a court trial in August 2024.
