Confessed Ax Murderer Fesses Up in Kassel Court

Here's the scoop on the sensational trial that's got everyone talking - the axe murder case in Kassel.

On the inaugural day of the Regional Court of Kassel, the defendant, a 29-year-old Bulgarian, admitted to taking the life of his former roommate. The homeless 26-year-old was allegedly slain with an axe in June 2024 while they shared a roof.

The victim's dismembered remains were discovered near the Hercules monument and on the former grounds of the Federal Garden Show (Buga) on the Fulda. The defendant, who had fled to the Czech Republic following the crime, was apprehended in Kassel approximately six weeks later.

According to the prosecution, the alleged murderer believed that his partner was unfaithful to him. Known for his fierce jealousy, the defendant stands accused of delivering the fatal blows to the sleeping victim.

However, the defendant offers a different account of the events. He claims that the axe attack wasn't on the 7th but rather on the 8th, and that the victim was not asleep but in the midst of a fight. The defendant feared the victim could harm him with a knife, and thus struck the individual twice in the head.

The crime tool, an axe that had reportedly been stored in the room due to a sense of threat, was consumed by alcohol and drugs, such as cannabis and fentanyl, before the murder.

In the wake of the crime, the defendant first bicycled for pizza delivery and then transported the body to the Buga grounds. Fearful that the body could be recognized, the defendant beheaded the victim and hid the remains near the Hercules monument.

Regrets for the heinous crime poured in from the defendant's attorney, who added that the defendant and victim shared a longstanding friendship. The duo knew each other for around two to three years, living together for some months, before the tragic turn of events.

The defendant is also on the hook for causing serious bodily harm to another man with a knife in January 2024, according to the prosecution. A dispute over drug use was speculated to be the underlying cause.
