Headline: 21-Year-Old Charged with Manslaughter in Fatal Jet Ski Collision with Kayaker

To put it bluntly, a bloke named Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez has found himself in a world of trouble after his speedy jet ski smashed into a kayak, taking the life of an 18-year-old gal named Ava Moore. Police have clapped him in irons for manslaughter, a bloody serious second-degree felony.

The accident took place on Grapevine Lake in north Texas on a Sunday evening, with the jet ski reportedly racing along at high speed, according to Texan Game Warden Capt. Joseph Quintero. Ava Moore met her untimely end as a result of this hit-and-run.

The suspected driver of the jet ski, Gonzalez, and his sidekick, Maikel Coello Perozo, both 21, fled the scene post-crash in a motor vehicle. They crashed into two other vehicles while fleeing, Quintero said.

It took some good detective work and tips from the public for authorities to track the pair down and nab them on Tuesday. In total, over 900 tips rolled in, according to Quintero.

Gonzalez has been slapped with a charge of felony manslaughter, while Perozo is facing two misdemeanors: collision involving damage to a vehicle and hindering apprehension. The automotive hit-and-run is under investigation by the Grapevine Police Department.

Quintero mentioned that more charges may be on the cards as the probe continues. He argues that such unnecessary deaths on public waters are tragedies they work hard to prevent.

"It's a fucking tragic, tragic situation," Quintero said during Wednesday's press briefing. "I hope people take this opportunity to remember Miss Moore and to remember to stay safe on the public waters."

Investigators are examining whether there was valid permitting for the jet ski's operation and if alcohol had a role to play. They are also Checking out footage from the scene.

The connection between Gonzalez and Perozo is unclear, but both are undocumented Venezuela-born immigrants, according to Joshua Johnson, the acting field office director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Dallas.

They entered the States illegally, with Gonzalez crossing the border on the 28th of September, 2023, and Perozo doing the same on the 22nd of January, 2023, as per the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

ICE has put immigration detainers on both, and once the state case is wrapped up, they'll snatch them up and carry on with the immigration process, Johnson said.

Ava Moore recently graduated from the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School and was all set to join the academy as part of the class of 2029. The academy's Superintendent, Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, remembered her as an "exemplary teammate."

Moore's family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers they've received and requested that folks keep Ava in their thoughts, asking for forgiveness to foster healing and positivity from this tragedy.
