Accused footballer Thomas Partey, previously of Arsenal, denies charges of rape and sexual misconduct

Thomas Partey, the Ghanaian midfielder currently playing for Villarreal, has pleaded not guilty to six counts, including five of rape and one of sexual assault, at Southwark Crown Court in London. The alleged offences occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his time as an Arsenal player.

The hearing took place on Wednesday, shortly after his football match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Judge Christopher Hehir granted bail to Partey under the same conditions as the previous hearing, which include him not being able to contact any of the three women involved in the case and notifying police of any permanent changes of address or international travel.

Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 in a transfer worth about £45 million, had earlier confirmed his name, date of birth, and not guilty pleas during a plea and preparation hearing. The accused women are two in number, and a third woman was sexually assaulted.

The trial for Partey's case is scheduled to take place in November 2026. Prior to joining Arsenal, Partey played for Atletico Madrid and made 188 appearances. He also went out on loan to Mallorca and Almeria while playing for Atletico Madrid.

Partey currently plays for Villarreal and appeared as a second-half substitute for Villarreal in their 1-0 defeat by Spurs in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Partey continues to play for Ghana.

The court hearing occurred at Southwark Crown Court, where the charges against Partey were brought forth.
