Accusations of sexual assault on Horizon debated openly by Kevin Costner
In a recent development, actor Kevin Costner has filed a motion to dismiss the sexual harassment lawsuit brought against him by stunt performer and actress Devyn LaBella, related to the movie Horizon [1][2].
The lawsuit, filed in L.A. Superior Court on August 18, 2023, accuses Costner of sexual harassment on set. However, Costner and his legal team have strongly denied the claims, stating that they are baseless [1][2].
Costner has alleged that the accusations are so patently false that they can only be assumed to have been made to embarrass and damage him and the Horizon movies. He has also claimed that Devyn's allegations were designed to damage his reputation [1].
One of the key points of contention is an alleged "unscripted rape scene" on one of the Horizon movies. Costner has disputed this claim, calling it a "blatant lie" [1]. He has stated that the scene in question was a buildup and foretelling of two violent rape scenes that occur offscreen, and that it was witnessed by twelve individuals [1].
Costner has included dozens of photos of Devyn taken on the set of Horizon in a declaration attached to the motion [1]. He has declared that he will always speak up to defend himself and his crew against false allegations [1].
The actor has also referred to the allegations as an "absolute nightmare" both financially and personally [1]. Other collaborators who worked on the Western movie's scene have also filed declarations asking the court to dismiss Devyn's case [1].
At the time of writing, other collaborators have not issued widely reported statements beyond this legal action and Costner’s public denials. The case is ongoing, and further updates are expected to be released in due course.
