Unidentified Suspect Charged for Alleged Vandalism at Lower Saxony State Parliament

Here's an update on the recent alleged vandalism incident at the Lower Saxony state parliament in Hannover. A 24-year-old man has been accused of causing criminal damage, as revealed by the public prosecutor's office in the city. A spokesperson confirmed that the man was charged in two cases, although other perpetrators have yet to be identified.

According to previous reports, the state parliament was spray-painted with red paint, bearing the slogan "Free Gaza" and the red triangles symbolizing the Islamist group Hamas. The incident happened the night before an open day at the state parliament, and a piece of art was also defaced. The charges have been brought before the regional court in Hannover, and the presumption of innocence applies as ever.

Authorities recognized the suspect on footage from surveillance cameras. He is known for his participation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

The clean-up and necessary renovation following the damage incurred a cost of approximately 70,000 euros and required a substantial amount of time. Criminal damage generally results in penalties of up to three years in prison or a hefty fine.
