Accusation made against Rahul Gandhi in Odisha for presumed "anti-national" statements
In a significant development, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Odisha's Jharsuguda district. The FIR, registered on Friday, was filed under Sections 152 and 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to acts threatening India's sovereignty, unity, and integrity, and the dissemination of false or misleading information endangering the nation's security respectively.
The complaint was lodged by members of the BJP, its youth wing, RSS, and Bajrang Dal. They accused Rahul Gandhi of making an "anti-national" statement, and claimed that he crossed the limits of freedom of speech. The complainants further alleged that Gandhi's statement incited subversive activities and rebellion, and undermined the sovereignty and integrity of India.
According to the complaint, submitted to Himanshu Lal, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Northern Range, Gandhi declared his fight against the Indian state itself. The complainants believe that these statements were made with the intention to create disharmony and disrupt the peace and unity of the nation.
The FIR against Rahul Gandhi was filed at the Jharsuguda police station (Case No. 31). It is important to note that the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was arrested on September 14, 2023, in Odisha's Jharsuguda district in connection with these allegations.
