Accuracy of the May 12 Elections Assessed at Near-Perfect Level by Comelec Audit
PHILIPPINES ELECTIONS: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has shared some promising news regarding the ongoing Random Manual Audit (RMA) for the May 12 elections. As of the latest briefing, the accuracy rate between the automated counting machines (ACMs) and the manual tally stands at an impressive 99.997%.
In a press conference at Citadines Hotel in Pasay City, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia shared this information, mentioning that there are expectations for a comprehensive report to be delivered next week[1]. A total of 723 ballots have been audited, and the remaining ballot boxes are to be finished by the end of the day.
It's worth noting that the current accuracy rate is a slight improvement over the 99.94% recorded during the May 2022 national and local elections[2][3][4]. The RMA is a crucial process aimed at validating the accuracy of the machines used in the elections by manually examining the ballots. Specifically, the votes being verified are for senator, party-list group, congressional representative, and mayor[2][5].
As stated in the Automated Election System (AES) Act, a random manual audit is conducted in one precinct per congressional district to ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process[3]. Since 2010, there have been no recorded questions or disputes related to the RMA results[1].
