"Supercharged Economics": Habeck's Exit Elicits Cheers - Reiche's Appreciation for Her Green Predecessor

Acclamation for Habeck - Commendation from Successor Reiche

After Robert Habeck passed the baton to Katherina Reiche of CDU, the praise for his performance as the Federal Minister of Economics poured in, even within his own ministry.

Robert Habeck, who took the reins when the economic effects of the pandemic and the energy crisis stirred by Russia's attacks on Ukraine were still palpable, has shown "supercharged" performance, Reiche told his colleagues with wide-eyed admiration. The 51-year-old could hardly fathom the workload he shouldered during his tenure.

Accepting the position during such tumultuous times, Habeck reiterated the importance of the ministry, calling it "the heart of political chaos of our era." Demonstrating concern for the nation's economic stability, he emphasized that "democracy thrives on prosperity." Absent the assurance of job security and escaping the specter of poverty, it's "difficult to instill optimism and hope."

At the Federal Ministry of Economics, Habeck's exit evoked applause from his team, evident of their deep respect for his dedication. Reiche welcomed the retiring Green politician's words, praising the ministry as a "grand manor with many unfinished projects, thanks to the recent elections, but also with many feats accomplished."

Reiche honored the departing minister's endeavors in trying times, despite their ideological differences. Although the term "friendship" might have been an overstatement, mutual respect between the two was unmistakable.

Looking ahead, Reiche highlighted her intention to reinstate the ministry's influence as the moral compass for federal policies, aiming to streamline the system costs while continuing Germany's admirable strides towards climate protection.

Reiche first entered the political scene in 2015, occupying the CEO position at the Association of Municipal Enterprises (VKU), before assuming leadership at Westenergie, a subsidiary of Eon Group, since 2000. After being officially sworn in on Tuesday, she's now poised to navigate Germany's intricate economic landscape.
