Accident at the intersection cleared, A57 now free of obstructions
On the morning of September 17, 2025, a significant traffic disruption occurred on the A57 towards Cologne between Kaarst junction and Holzbüttgen. The incident, which involved a motorcyclist, took place near the Holzbüttgen exit around 3:30 AM.
The accident led to the closure of the highway, causing traffic to back up for approximately five kilometers up to the Meerbusch junction. The closure was initially estimated to last until 8 AM, but was later extended to 9:30 AM. The A57 at Kaarst junction remained closed for about 2 hours and 37 minutes.
During this time, the Kreispolizeibehörde Rhein-Kreis Neuss (District Police Authority Rhein-Kreis Neuss) conducted an investigation into the traces of the accident from the previous night. The investigation team is still examining the details of the incident, with the possibility of it being a single-vehicle accident or potentially caused by another party.
The accident resulted in the motorcyclist sustaining life-threatening injuries and becoming unconscious. As of the current time, the road has been reopened, but traffic congestion may still be present in the area.
In addition, alternative routes through Kaarst were also congested due to the accident on the A57. As the investigation continues, motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and to plan alternative routes to their destinations.
