The accident led to the closure of the highway, causing traffic to back up for approximately five kilometers up to the Meerbusch junction. The closure was initially estimated to last until 8 AM, but was later extended to 9:30 AM. The A57 at Kaarst junction remained closed for about 2 hours and 37 minutes.

During this time, the Kreispolizeibehörde Rhein-Kreis Neuss (District Police Authority Rhein-Kreis Neuss) conducted an investigation into the traces of the accident from the previous night.
