Southampton has reportedly reached an agreement with Will Still to take over as their new manager, according to talkSPORT. It is possible that Still could be present at the club's match this Sunday.

Accepts Offer for Championship Position Despite Recent Departure from Lens

Southampton has agreed a three-year deal with Will Still to take over as their new manager, according to talkSPORT. The French coach is set to assume the role starting next season, contingent on any potential legal or contractual issues.

Still, who guided Lens to an eighth-place finish in Ligue 1, recently left the club, citing his desire to be closer to his partner Emma Saunders. She has been battling health issues, including thyroid cancer and a brain infection called encephalitis.

Simon Rusk, Southampton's interim manager since April following the departure of Ivan Juric, has been in charge of the team during a challenging period. Previously, he took over as an interim manager in December after the sacking of Russell Martin.

The potential appointment of Still could see the departure of Rusk, although the club has also been linked with Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl. However, compensation is believed to be a stumbling block in any negotiations.

Still made a name for himself as manager of Reims at the age of 30, despite not having a UEFA pro licence, which cost the club £22,000 per match.

Saunders attended Lens' final match of the Ligue 1 season, which they won 4-0 against Monaco, and took to the pitch with Still after the game. Fans have previously shown their support for Saunders with a banner that read 'Courage Emma et Will'.

Southampton, who were relegated to the Championship after taking just 12 points in 36 games this season, will face Arsenal in their final Premier League game of the season. The Saints are yet to announce when Still will take over as manager.

  1. The newly appointed Southampton manager, Will Still, has a notable past, having successfully managed Reims at the age of 30, despite not having a UEFA pro licence.
  2. Simon Rusk, the current interim manager at Southampton, might find himself out of a job with the potential arrival of Will Still, but the club is also reportedly considering Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl as a possible replacement.
  3. With Still's arrival at the Premier League club, Southampton could be looking at a shake-up in their sports management, as compensation negotiations with Sheffield Wednesday might be a hurdle in any potential transfer of Rohl.
  4. Southampton, currently battling relegation in the European-leagues, and specifically the Premier League, will be hoping that Still's management skills can help the team avoid further disappointments, as they prepare to face Arsenal in their final match of the season.
