Accelerating Post-Election Tidying Up Efforts in Davao
Moving Forward After the Elections: Progress in Davao Region
Post-election clean up efforts in the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-Davao) district are well underway following the recent May 12, 2025, National and Local Elections.
As of the 13th, roughly 77% of election-related debris has been cleared from the region. Major Catherine Dela Rey, PRO-Davao spokesperson, confirmed this progress in an interview, stating that no formal complaints have surfaced regarding the election results. Dela Rey attributed the smooth elections and efficient post-election cleanup for this achievement.
Shortly after the polls closed, PRO-Davao personnel were deployed across the region to collect and properly store election materials, promoting cleanliness and order. Regional Director Brigadier General Leon Victor noted that, despite minor hiccups, such as technical issues with some automated voting machines, voting went smoothly overall. Although isolated incidents of suspected election-related violence and vote-buying were reported, they did not affect the election's overall integrity.
As PRO-Davao and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) coordinated to maintain peace and order during the post-election period, two isolated incidents occurred. A stray bullet injured a 15-year-old child in Davao Occidental, and a shooting took place in New Corella, Davao del Norte. Both cases are actively under investigation.
Comelec reported that around 80% of election results had been transmitted and were being processed as of May 13, indicating steady progress towards determining final results.
Addressing the logistical challenges of removing campaign materials, Comelec granted candidates a five-day grace period. Comelec Chair George Garcia announced the extension on May 13, recognizing the immense effort involved in cleanup and acknowledging concerns raised by candidates and local government units about the original deadline. Garcia described the extension as a practical response to the immense scale of the cleaning operation.
Amidst the progress and challenges, PRO-Davao remains dedicated to ensuring a peaceful and orderly post-election environment, continuing both cleanup efforts and swift responses to any incidents that may arise. [5]
