ACC & ESPN Debut Live Replay Review Conversations in College Football
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and ESPN have introduced a novel feature for college football fans. Viewers can now listen live to replay review conversations during select broadcasts, starting with the SMU vs. East Texas A&M game on Aug. 30.
The debut of this feature occurred with 6:34 left in the first quarter of the aforementioned game. It was first used in the ACC during a double-overtime thriller between Florida State and Virginia. The ACC is the first college league to offer this unique insight into the decision-making process.
ESPN had previously experimented with providing access to replay-review conversations in the XFL in 2023. The ACC has high-profile chances to showcase this feature, such as a late TD catch in the Clemson-Georgia Tech game on Sept. 13. Viewers can hear frame-by-frame discussions between stadium officials and the replay command center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The next usage of the feature will be in the Saturday night matchup between No. 3 Miami and No. 18 Florida State.
The ACC and ESPN have a media rights deal through the 2035-36 season, ensuring fans can enjoy this innovative feature for years to come. By offering live replay review conversations, the ACC and ESPN aim to enhance transparency and fan engagement.
